When you’re wearing braces, one of the most important things you can do is to keep your teeth as clean and sparkly white as possible. If you let junk build up on your braces, it can cause cavities, gum disease, and even tooth loss. Obviously you don’t want any of those things to happen.
So with that in mind, let’s see what Dr. James B. Macomson recommends you do to keep your teeth clean.
Don’t skip flossing
Enough people already skip flossing – nearly six in ten American adults – but you absolutely can’t disregard it when wearing braces. Food easily gets stuck between your teeth and the metal wires and brackets used to straighten your teeth.
Luckily, there are tons of different special flossing tools, designed just for those undergoing orthodontic treatment, which can help you properly clean your teeth and prevent cavities.
Obviously this is the easiest way to take care of your teeth, but a lot of people don’t brush properly when wearing braces. You need to focus on cleaning between the wires and brackets and the surface of your teeth – and you can do that with special interdental brushes. These are made just for braces and should make a huge difference in your overall oral health while undergoing orthodontic treatment.
